Evaluate the feasibility/simulation study of gas cap injection in the Rigel Lower Halfway “H” Pool. Simulation results indicated an incremental oil recovery of approx. 12% is expected. Software: CMG/IMAX
Sensitivity analysis was performed with the objective of determining the optimum Hz well spacing and also the frac design; including the frac size and the number of frac stages. Production forecasts were generating using the Rubis Software for various design options. Further, a production acceleration scenario was evaluated to determine its impact on the project’s NPV.
Project: Well Performance Evaluation

Numerical modeling; using the Rubis software (KAPPA), was used to illustrate the benefits of applying the Multi-stage fracing to an existing Hz well producing from the Red Rock Oil field – Chinook Formation. A multi-layered/multi phase model was generated to account for the two rock types; Conglomerate and sand. The model predict an oil production rate increase of 4 folds for a six-stage frac (open hole completion).
Project: Design of a new waterflood project – Red Rock
Since this field has been on primary production, the expected ultimate oil recovery was not attractive because of the low formation permeability of the Chinook Formation. Based on analytical techniques, it was concluded that the primary recovery factor of approx. 5% could be increased to 20%. The prize of implementing the waterrflood would add additional oil reserves over 15 MMBbl’s. A pilot project was recommended to utilize a new MFHW as an injector and existing offset vertical wells as producers. The selection criteria of the pilot location and performance were determined using a combination of analytical and numerical techniques. Based on the results of the pilot project, further decisions will be made to implement a full scale waterflood project.
Similar design and performance evaluation of Multi-stage Frac Hz Well (MFHW) was performed for the following clients:
– AORC Oil and Gas Ltd.
– Connacher Oil and Gas Ltd (Pelisko Formation)
– Petro Bakken (Bakken Fprmation)
Performance comparison of MFHW’s using either open hole (Packer Plus Type) and cased hole was performed. Numerical Production Analysis (Topaz Software) was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the completion/frac techniques used for the existing five horizontal wells. Further, sensitivity analysis was also conducted to optimize the completion and frac design for newly drilled MFHW.
